The African Neutron Diffraction Meeting - the first of its kind in Africa - is being organized under the auspices of the International Union of Crystallography and will take place over the period:

21-22 August 2003

The venue will be:

Amanzingwe Bush Lodge in Broederstroom (5 km from Safari-1), 40 km west of Pretoria, South Africa

http://www.amanzingwe.co.za

This satellite meeting is scheduled to allow delegates enough time to proceed on to Durban for ECM-21. As most international flights to South Africa arrive at Johannesburg International Airport, delegates to this satellite meeting need only interrupt their trip to Durban by staying a few days in Broederstroom.

ECM-21 website This meeting is planned as a satellite meeting of ECM-21, the 21st meeting of the European Crystallographic Association which will be held in Durban, South Africa from 24 to 29 August 2003

The theme of the meeting is
Modern Neutron Diffraction and Applications
and covers topics such as Materials and Solid State Chemistry, Chemical Structures, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Biological Structure, Physics and Magnetism, Forward Look: New Opportunities in Neutron Scattering, Rietveld Refinement Demonstration Session and a tour of the Safari-1 Research Reactor at Pelindaba.

Participation is unrestricted except for a limitation on the numbers of 50 delegates. Preference will be given to presenters of original research and to students. Particpation by students and young scientists is strongly encouraged to stimulate a vibrant interest in neutron diffraction in Africa.

A programme for accompanying persons will be offered in conjunction with travel agent/tour operator. Correspondence should be directed via the Conference Secretariat.

The African Neutron Diffraction Meeting is sponsored by:
